Pharmaceutical Company Lites the Sky for Joshua
A local pharmaceutical company is celebrating the adoption of a South Wales charity by supporting one of their biggest fundraising events of the year.
Biotec Services International Ltd has adopted The Joshua Foundation – a charity of children with terminal cancer – and is offering them a financial boost which it hopes will help to kick start fundraising around the charity’s Lite the Night event in March.
Lite The Nite attracts hundreds of supporters to a 5km after-dark walk around the grounds of St Fagans with illuminated balloons to help raise money for The Joshua Foundation.
Managing director of Biotec, Marc Weinzweig, said: “Biotec had a very successful 2008 and despite the credit crunch business is currently booming for us. We realise that this isn’t typical in the current economic climate and so we believe it is more important than ever to contribute to good causes”.
“I am a keen supporter of the work of The Joshua Foundation and am happy that Biotec are able to help out with Lite the Nite. We will also be organising a number of our own fundraising events throughout the year. We are starting by selling off our old computers to staff members and donating all proceeds to The Joshua Foundation and then we will think about other ways we can help to raise money.
“In 2010 I am planning on doing a 600km bike ride from the North of Israel to the South of Israel with other colleagues and we will be asking clients, friends and family to support us by sponsoring us to do the trip. I hope that the money we raise will help to contribute towards making the lives of children with cancer and their families a little easier and better”.
Sarah Cornelius, Chief Executive and founder of The Joshua Foundation comments, ”I am very grateful to Biotec for donating some money to The Joshua Foundation to help us make the Lite the Nite event possible. It is an important fundraising event in The Joshua Foundation calendar and any support we can get from local businesses is always welcome. I know that in the current climate giving to charity is sometimes at the bottom of the list so we appreciate anything people can give to help us and in turn the children with cancer”.
