South Wales Firm, Biotec, Scoop Prestigious Queens Award
Biotec Services International has been awarded The Queens Awards for Enterprise in International Trade, the UK’s most prestigious award for business performance.
South Wales based Biotec has been recognised and rewarded for its outstanding achievement in international trade after experiencing exceptional growth over the past year.
Following an aggressive marketing strategy the company managed to secure a number of long-term lucrative contracts with clients in the US, Japan and Israel. As a result Biotec completed 2008 with a turnover in excess of £3 million, which is double the company’s turnover in 2007; a 140% increase in export sales; a 152% increase in US sales and more than 100% increase in revenue.
The awards are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and the trade unions.
Biotec’s managing director, Marc Weinzweig said, “We are delighted to receive this incredibly prestigious award for international trade from the Queens Awards for Enterprise.
“Biotec invested a great deal of time and money targeting small, medium and large pharmaceutical companies overseas that had an outsourcing requirement for clinical trial supply services or specialist storage of temperature sensitive biopharmaceutical products.
“We have been particularly successful targeting clients in the US, Israel and Japan who wish to conduct clinical trials in the EU but require the services of a Qualified Person to certify that the products are manufactured to EU standards”.
He added: “With the financial help and support from International Business Wales (IBW) our focused marketing strategy has enabled us to build and developed strong relationships with clients, particularly in the USA , Israel and Japan which have proved very significant to Biotec’s growth”
Biotec has had a great deal of support from IBW over the past year, which has helped to fund the company’s business drive, particularly in North America. IBW continues to support Biotec by helping the company to actively search for business on both the east and west coast of America.
In 2008 Biotec also enjoyed a move to its large new custom-built £1.5 million facility in Bridgend which provides a great deal more space to meet the needs of its growing client base. The company also changed its name to Biotec Services International Ltd to reflect its continued growth of clients internationally, particularly in the USA, Canada, Israel and Japan.
Biotec Services International Limited was established in 1997 and works on behalf of global pharmaceutical companies, many located outside the EU, looking to conduct clinical trials and market products in Europe.
