New CEO to spearhead Biotec's Growth
Biotec Pharmaceutical Services International Ltd has appointed Keren Winmill as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in a bid to spearhead the company’s next stage of growth.
Keren, who won the Science and Technology category of Welsh Woman of the Year in 2003, takes the position of CEO. Founder, Marc Weinzweig, will remain a non-executive director, major shareholder and continue his role in business development in Israel.
Keren is a highly experienced pharmaceutical and general management professional with particular technical expertise in clinical supply management and a background in both the research-based pharmaceutical industry and the pharmaceutical services sector. She is also internationally recognised as an expert in clinical supplies legislation and practise.
Marc Weinzweig said: “Over the past 12 years I have enjoyed investing both my time and money growing Biotec from a small Welsh-based organisation, to become a key player in the global biopharmaceutical market, generating an annual turnover of more than £3 million.
“Biotec is now growing at a substantial rate and needs someone who is capable of maintaining the momentum and managing the next stage of growth. I have made the decision to step aside into a more consultative role on the board , while Keren will be the driving force behind Biotec’s continued success and expansion.”
Keren said: “I am really excited about my new role of CEO at Biotec Services International Ltd. The company has experienced a great deal of growth and success over the past 12 years, which has accelerated in the last 18 months and is in a very exciting position internationally. Winning the MediWales Export Achievement Award at the end of 2008 and now The Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade have been particular honours and both highlight the phenomenal achievements of Marc and his team in recent years”.
“My plan over the next five years is to continue to grow Biotec’s client base internationally in order help take the company to its target of £10million turnover per annum and to position Biotec as a leading services organisation Worldwide”.
2008 was Biotec’s most successful year yet, with the company smashing its £2 million turnover target. It completed 2008 with a turnover in excess of £3 million, 140% increase in export sales, 152% increase in US sales and over 100% increase in revenue. Biotec’s success in 2008 was a direct result of the company’s marketing activity, particularly in North America and Israel. A great deal of time, money and effort was invested into nurturing existing clients and developing relationships with new clients across the globe, strongly supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.
The company also enjoyed a move to its large new custom-built £1.5 million facility in Bridgend, which provides the environment to meet the needs of its growing client base. The company also changed its name to Biotec Services International Ltd to reflect its continued growth of clients internationally, particularly in the USA, Canada, Israel and Japan.
